MONTREAL SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITY RATINGS

Survey of nearly 28,000 students assigns grades to Canadian universities on topics ranging from quality of education to student living.

Nearly 28,000 Canadian undergraduate students from 71 universities and university colleges were polled on more than 80 aspects of their student experience for this year's University Report Card, the only national review of the Canadian undergraduate university experience based solely on the students' voice. The resource provides an in-depth view of the most critical issues facing students today.

"Peer experience is an important contributor in selecting a university," explains Tim Woolstencroft, Managing Partner, The Strategic Counsel, which managed the student research. "We asked Canadian undergraduate students about the issues that matter most to them. The answers we received provide a true insider's perspective on Canadian universities that can't be found in a brochure."

Key findings of the University Report Card are available today in The Globe and Mail and the full report and searchable databases are available at www.globeandmail.com/reportcard. In addition to the results of the survey, The Globe provides analysis and commentary on issues such as choosing the right school, navigating the university application process, budgeting and financial assistance, and more.

"The Web site allows prospective university students to look specifically at the universities of most interest and the issues of highest priority to them," said Phillip Crawley, Publisher and CEO, The Globe and Mail. "This increased functionality enables students and parents to research areas that are most important to their personal decision making process."

In the survey, students were asked to rate their personal satisfaction with everything from quality of teaching and library facilities to food service and campus environment.

The results of this year's University Report Card reveal many institutions delivering high levels of student satisfaction in areas such as university experience, including education, student services, and student lifestyle.

One enhancement in this year's report is the categorizing of universities by student size. "Comparing diverse institutions is challenging," said Woolstencroft. "By categorizing the results by enrollment, we make it easier for students to make more of an apples-to-apples comparison."

Highlights of Results The following table shows the highest grades assigned in a few of the more than 80 survey topics. (NOTE: these results are top-line results only. Complete data and results for all universities are available on www.globeandmail.com/reportcard.)
