McGill University Academic Information
Most subjects are available. Courses are generally like courses in the US - with continuous assessment. However, the final exams may carry more weight than in the States. UR exchange students may enroll for any course at McGill, as long as they meet prerequisites and places are available. As in this case of work completed at UR, students are advised to keep either hard copies or a disk copy of all of their work for future reference and for the rare instance when their work is misplaced.

The average course load per semester is 12-15 credits. Students will generally earn 3 credits for each course successfully completed at McGill. Grades earned at McGill are not calculated into the University of Richmond GPA.

McGill University Grades
Letter grades at McGill are equivalent to Richmond letter grades (ie A=" A). However the grading scale may be different. The standard McGill grading scale is listed below. There may be slight variations by department, so students should be sure to understand the grading scale for each course at the beginning of the semester.

  • A- (80-84%)
  • B+ (75-79%)
  • B (70-74%)

  • Richmond students may apply for housing in a McGill residence, but spaces are limited. Most students in the residences are first-year McGill students; upperclassmen generally find independent housing in the city. McGill will help students to secure off-campus housing with other international students.

A meal plan is required for most students living in residences, and a "non-resident" (off-campus) meal plan is also available for students living off-campus, but who prefer not to cook all meals for themselves. The university is surrounded by a wide variety of restaurants.
