MONTREAL SPORTS TEAMS
Montreal is home to 2 major professional sports teams.
Montreal Canadians
Le Club de hockey Canadien de Montréal dates back to 1909. It's said to be the most successful professional sports team of the 20th
century, having brought home 24 Stanley Cups between 1916 and 1993.
The team - also known as the Habs - is part of the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League.
The regular NHL hockey season runs from September till April, with the Stanley Cup playoffs finishing up in June. Game tickets can be
bought at the Bell Centre box office, or via Admission at 514-790-1245 or toll-free at 1-800-361-4595.
Montreal Alouettes
The Montreal Alouettes play in the East Division of the Canadian Football League. The annual championship is called the Grey Cup and the
regular season is from July to November.
Canadian football looks similar to American football but - to quote An American's Guide to Canada:
The CFL regulation-sized ball is bigger, the field is longer and wider, the end zone is deeper, the field goal posts are at the front of
the end zone instead of at the back, there are twelve players on each team instead of eleven, and there are three downs instead of four.
These differences mean that Canadian football has a lot more passing instead of rushing, and the Canadian games tend to be a lot more fast-
paced.
The Alouettes play downtown at the Molson Stadium, near the corner of Pine Avenue and Park Avenue beside McGill University.
Game tickets can be bought by calling 514-871-BALL (871-2255) or faxing 514-871-2244.
