Bulb ends gradually dimming

Cause Solution
Bulb is going out Replace with bulb of same wattage. Uniform dimming means the bulb needs washing.

Bulb does not light

Cause Solution
Bulb ends not properly seated

Loose or broken connection
Wiggle bulb ends. If this does not work and the tube is rapid-start, check for a loose or broken connection.
Search for source of problem by turning off circuit power, removing tubes and fixture cover, and inspecting all connections inside. If the problem can't be found, look for loose connections and broken or bare wires in the outlet box.

Bulb Flickers but won't turn on (delayed-start)

Cause Solution
Started not seated properly Push starter in and turn clockwise.

Ends of bulb light but center does not

Cause Solution
Starter failure Remove starter by pressing in and turning counter clockwise. Replace with new starter.

Fixture humming, emitting acrid odor or tar-like substance

Cause Solution
Ballast failure Compare price of replacing ballast to replacing entire fixture. Choose whichever is less expensive.
